Why do the words fun and electric have to be synonymous when they are applied to cars? For me fun does not convey reliable, nor come to think of it, environmentally-friendly. I’d like a stolid, sensible, pollution-free electric vehicle please.
That may be the upshot of a new UK project that will take a “clean sheet of paper” and design an all-electric car from scratch. The T-27, as proposed by Gordon Murray Design will be “the world’s most efficient electric vehicle,” with life cycle emissions of 27 percent less than comparable electric vehicles.
The project has just been awarded a GBP 4.5 million government grant to fund the development of four prototypes, to prove not only the design per se, but a new sustainable manufacturing process.
In starting from scratch the project will dispense with stamped steel body work and existing gearboxes, motors and batteries. The result will be a Tardis-like three-seater that is smaller than a Smart car, but with more interior space. Put like that, I suppose the T-27 could be fun.
